A safe summer starts with responsible behaviour

The summer months on the island of Vis and in Komiža are marked by high temperatures, increased traffic, outdoor activities, and a large number of visitors. While we all enjoy the beauty of summer, it is also a period of increased risk of wildfires, heatwaves, accidents at sea, and other emergency situations.

The Civil Protection Directorate, through the campaign Enjoy your vacation responsibly, reminds us that most dangerous situations can be prevented through timely information and responsible behaviour.

What can you do to stay safe?

Simple but important advice:

  • Avoid sun exposure during the hottest part of the day
  • Drink enough water – dehydration can happen faster than expected
  • Wear light-coloured, lightweight clothing, hats, and sunglasses
  • Bring enough water, food, and sun protection when going on trips
  • Use UV protection regularly
  • Avoid travelling and outdoor activities during peak heat
  • Do not light fires in open areas
  • Follow weather warnings from DHMZ and traffic updates from HAK

Responsible behaviour prevents wildfires

We kindly ask all residents and visitors to:

  • avoid lighting fires in open areas
  • never discard cigarette butts in nature
  • immediately report smoke or fire to 112 or 193

112 – the single emergency number

In any emergency – traffic accident, fire, injury, or sudden illness – call 112. The number is available 24/7 in multiple languages.

Wildfires can also be reported by calling 193.
