Attractions
The waters around the island of Vis are known for its open sea islands: Brusnik, Sveti Andrija, Jabuka, and Palagruza. Some of them are periodically visited by Mediterranean seals.
A special attraction on the island of Bisevo is a unique phenomenon in the Adriatic Sea known as the highly reputed Blue Cave (Modra Spilja) which is visited by over 10,000 tourists every year.
We recommend that you visit the following:
• St. Nicholas’ Convent, monastery from the 13th century, known as Muster
• Kastel (Venetian tower) in the harbor from the 16th century and home of the Fishermen’s Museum
• Romanesque church from the 13th century
• Baroque sanctuary from the 16th century
• Various palaces from the beginning of the 20th century
If you are interested in culture and entertainment, definitely visit the Fishermen’s Museum and the musical, vivid manifestation of Komiza’s cultural summer. From neighboring restaurants pedestrians can hear the hums and harmonies of acapella “klapa” music. For more than 25 years Komizan ballet educator Joze Borcic during the summer maintains in Komiža an international ballet school. Here, students from the entire world increase their knowledge and become dancing perfectionists in classical ballet, pop and modern jazz. Every year, at the culmination of the final school days a student ballet concert is held in the Memorial Auditorium, which is enjoyed by a large number of Vis guests.
